Yup, me and my fiance (yes, we have taken over the radio station) did a big update last night. Expect more Latin American and world music in the mix (since my sweetie is a gothy punky Mexican). But it will still be swirlie and girlie.

Top 5 as voted on by YOU...

1) L'aulne Et La Mort - Collection D'arnell Andrea
2) In Essence - Bliss
3) The Sunflower Conspiracy - Belle Chasse
4) Slowdive - The Sadman
5) Red Lily - In Disarray

We will be at Coachella this year for OBVIOUS reasons.
A New Contest / Donation Drive!

Running even an internet radio station as easy as this can be $$ (if you catch our drift), so we shall start accepting donations. Any donation would be ok with us, a good amount would be $6. Yeah! However we want to make it worth your while...

We are also running a contest for a limited time. We will ask a question, and if you get the question right, we will send you a free CD with 13 songs of YOUR choice that you heard on The Swirly Girl Channel. Huh? Eh? Good deal, huh?

So the question is: What was the name of the Cocteau Twins first full length studio album?

Send your answer along with the 13 songs you would like to -

The Swirly Girl Channel
C/o DJ Gabby W.
P.O. Box 711213
Los Angeles, CA 90071

You can also send in your donation (money order or check) along with your answer and CD song list.

We hope you guys like this and good luck!
The silly Swirly Girl Gang

A personal favorite

I've always liked the band An April March (a Canadian version of Cocteau Twins). Why is it that the coolest bands break up so soon?

Anyways, I just got a wild hair and put two songs from them on the playlist. Hope y'all like.

Not new songs (didn't they break up in like 1995?), but if you've never heard them, they're new to you!

Ok, that NBC line has gotten old.

Not much...

Yeah, not much to report. But we have kept our word and have slowly added songs we ganked from Cocteaufest. I've been meaning to add a few new ones from Lisa Dewy.

As always, we'll keep you posted on any shows or DJ gigs that might come our way... I know that Joan is going to do a gig here in LA for Halloween, but the exact club escapes me at the moment.

If you really want to know where, post a reply here and I'll get back to you. Maybe I can swing a couple of guest list passes...

Now the top 5 most popular songs voted on by you, the listener -

Andalusia - Sunday Morning
Mazzy Star - Roseblood
Soil And Eclipse - Fields of Stone
Kate Bush - The Big Sky
Death In June - Giddy Giddy Carousel

Wow, there were some OLD school songs in that lot! Andalusia surprises me because I just added that a week ago.

Cheers!

Post Cocteaufest 2004

Well, I know I had fun...

Cocteaufest was a complete blast and a half! None of us spun however (it was a preset playlist), but that didn't matter... Too bad the next one is in England, otherwise I would be trying to find a way for us to attend that one as well.

The pics I could find are located here. There are about 3 of me, 1 of Joan (hint: she is talking to DJ Wednesday near the BBQ), and none of Steve.

How in the hell does Steve avoid the camera?!?!

The bands were fantastic, with my favorite being Red Lily. And the booze. Oh, the booze. I had a two day hangover and Steve canceled his date with this one gal to recover... To cancel a date, you must have a SERIOUS hangover.

Well, on to Swirly Girl Channel news. We got a gangload of CDs that Joan promised to sift through. I'll be adding them on to the station playlists a few at a time. In a few months the playlists will be somewhat unrecognizable (from it's current form). But it'll be all good.

Any comments/suggestions, let us know!

Peace,
Gabby, Joan and Steve

Wowza!

Ok...

We did an unintended update of all three playlists.

We all got together with our songs and started dumping them in the Live365 site. But since we lapsed in our maintenance, they took away a little meg space.

So we went through ALL of the songs we had saved and created basically new lists!

I hope you all enjoy. Any questions, comments or suggestions are welcomed.

See some of you tomorrow at Cocteaufest!

Signed,
The Swirly Gang

We are BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello!

Before we begin, I feel we should inform you that this is a form post. Now, that being said, obviously you have listened to The Swirly Girl Channel (on Live365) and like some of the music there. So here is the story...

Life being what it is can sometimes consume us. In that regard, the three of us who operate The Swirly Girl Channel got sidetracked to other "things" (with me getting ready to propose to my sweetie in a few months). So the radio station fell into disrepair. Bills weren't paid, playlist weren't updated, and soon, poof!

However, over the past couple of months we have been doing some DJ gigs here and there and slowly started to get back into the shoegaze/ethereal scene. With Cocteaufest coming up, we took the bold step of becoming one of the sponsors. When they asked us what we wanted the miscellaneous flyers and t-shirts to say, we naturally said "Say the radio station!" However, the station was kinda defunct. But no more... We are back up!

That's right, The Swirly Girl Channel is back on the air free to all! Now if that was the purpose of your e-mail to us, well there ya go.

However, if you are a band/artist looking to have The Swirly Girl Channel play some of your songs either on the station or at clubs we DJ, then read on...

The Swirly Girl Channel
C/o DJ Gabby
P.O. Box 711213
Los Angeles, CA 90071

That be where you would send any sample CDs and such. Or you can e-mail us at this address for an alternative method.

Now, time for some links.

This is our station link (for those whom might have forgotten it)
http://www.live365.com/stations/shoegazergabby
Come reacquaint yourself!

One of us (usually me) will spin from time to time at this shoegaze club (Club Violaine)
http://clubviolaine.com/
Check out the set list for 7/30 to get a taste of what we play at clubs (it's under Gabby)

This is where all of us will be tomorrow (9/25)
http://cocteaufest.com/news.html
This is the worldwide annual Cocteaufest. Come say hi, eat, drink, dance!

Ok, I guess that is it for now. We are refreshed and ready to recommit to our love. Any questions, comments or suggestions, feel free to e-mail and we promise you will get a more personal response.

Cheers,
Gabby, Steve, Joan
The Swirly Girl Channel
